She was the first artist who created stained paintings where she would dilute the paint and create layers of different washes which melded together influenced artists such as Kenneth Noland and Morris Lewis. As a result of Frankenthalers work, Clement Greenberg, who had until then had focused on the works of Abstract Expressionism including Jackson Pollock and Robert Motherwell, subsequently became involved with Colour Field painting.Works such as Covent Garden Study are an example of Frankenthalers use of staining and blots of paint which allowed her more freedom on the immediacy of paper.'
