In the 1970s, after a conversation with Clement Greenberg, who noticed the dropped and splattered paint drips on plastic sheets in Poonss studio, Poons began to pour, throw and splash paint directly onto the surface of the canvas, acknowledging the fluidity of paint. In the 1980s, Poons started gluing bits of foam rubber to the raw canvases to slow the flow of pigment.'
